Friendship With a Mentor {Guest Post}

Hello!

I hope you guys having been enjoying this series.  It has definitely been a good reminder for me how important friendships are and why we need different types of friends.

Today, my good friend Chelsea, or Chelzz, is here to talk about friendships with mentors and how hers has impacted her.  I met Chelsea back in 2008 at church and we bonded immediately.  Chelsea just started her own blog and it is so exciting to have one more friend in the blogging world!  She is such a special girl and I hope you enjoy what she has to say!

Hello all! My name is Chelsea from OverStyledMe and my lovely friend Katie asked me to post on Friendships with Mentors.

I have had a few mentors throughout my life. Most came from my church. Usually it was the youth pastors wife or a small group leader from a Sunday school type class. I have always loved having someone older to look up to, lean on and talk to. One mentor has stuck by me since middle school and has been there for me through it all. Even times when I pretty much could care less for her, she stuck by me. Her name is Andrea and she is the most amazing woman you will ever meet. ( At least I think so! )

I had a pretty great childhood and teenage years. I did pretty well in school, always had a great group of friends, played sports and was involved with church a lot. My parents divorced when I was 17 and my world turned upside down. I went through some pretty roller coaster type seasons and it took me a few years to really figure out who I was, what I believed, my morals, and values. My mentor, Andrea, stuck by me through all of my roller coaster seasons and never once left my side. She cried with me, laughed with me, congratulated me, gave me a good scolding when I needed it and didn’t want to hear it. Never once did she think about leaving my side (Even though she tells me now she wanted to slap me quite a few times! I don’t blame her either) Now, being settled in who I am, being married and knowing what I want out of life we are finally at the point where we can be friends. Of course she still gives me advice all the time and is always there when I need her but now our relationship can become more of a friendship. I can now pour into her and be a friend to her when she needs one. She is one lady I highly value, love and trust. She started out mentoring me and later became my friend. She is someone I can always count on to be there for me and someone I know will always be in my life forever.

I hope every woman has someone they can look up to and trust to talk to. Life wasn’t meant to be lived alone and it’s nice to have someone older to gain wisdom from. My mentor Andrea was one of the best relationships to come into my life and I am so thankful for her.

Thank you for letting me be apart of your blog and encouraging me and helping me blog! xoxo!

Wow, that is so encouraging to hear of a successful mentor/mentee relationship.  I think we all should strive to have someone who gave help guide us, give us wisdom and just be there for us regardless of the situation.

Thank you again Chelzz for sharing this with us today!

I have been looking for a mentor relationship for my life right now. I've had mentors in the past that have been so influential and really value all that I've learned from them.
